20 ways to indulge your creative side this summer
Moreton Bay is home to galleries and museums full of exciting and interactive exhibitions for people of all ages to enjoy.
If you are looking to unleash your cultural side, here are some of the exhibitions and events happening throughout the summer holidays.

Art Collection up close: Free art activities for kids
For the school holidays, the Redcliffe Art Gallery has been transformed into a fun-filled, mind-expanding activity space for children.
There will be heaps of free activities on offer as part of Art Collection up close, plus you could also meet some of the artists from the City of Moreton Bay’s Art Collection.
It is free to attend, and bookings are not required.
This activity runs from now until February 3, 2024.
Nature nook activity corner
Take a peek into Pine Rivers Heritage Museum’s backyard and see the incredible fauna and flora that call the area home at the special nature nook activity corner.
There will be a range of drop-in activities for kids and adults to enjoy, as well as stunning views of the surrounding bushland.
You might even be lucky and see a cheeky bush turkey or a sleepy koala.
It is free to attend, and bookings are not required.
This activity runs from now until January 14, 2024.
The Patch
Get your hands dirty at The Patch, the latest Imaginarium experience at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum.
Here children can plant and harvest in the pretend veggie patch and collect eggs from the museum’s play chickens.
Children can also unleash their inner artist at the craft activity station and take home their own nature-inspired masterpieces.
This activity runs from now until April 14, 2024.

Kids art trail
Drop into Caboolture Regional Art Gallery and partake in an exciting journey through the I, Object exhibition.
Here children will have a ball finding all the artworks along the kids’ art trail, and afterwards they will receive a special prize.
They can also learn about Indigenous perspectives through contemporary painting, sculpture and installation.
Afterwards, visit the free Kids Creative Space to keep creating.

Lyndon Davis: Djagan Yaman
Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, Lyndon Davis is an internationally acclaimed Kabi Kabi artist, educator and cultural performer.
Djagan Yaman translates as ‘Country calling’.
This exhibition presents paintings, objects, moving images and sound to consider the way Davis’ practice is grounded in listening to Country and communicating the importance of custodianship and caring for the land.
It is free to attend, and bookings are not required.
This exhibition runs from now until February 24, 2024, at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery.
Taking Flight: Amazing migratory shorebirds
This interactive exhibition at the Bribie Island Seaside Museum is all about the 20,000 migratory shorebirds that visit the Pumicestone Passage each year.
Here you can learn more about the journey they make to Australia from their breeding grounds in the Artic Circle, and what they do to survive such a mammoth journey.
It is free to attend.

Mob on the Move
This summer, the Bribie Island Seaside Museum mini-Imaginarium will transform into Mob on the Move – an immersive art exhibition featuring three First Nations artists.
This exhibition focuses on using storytelling to encourage unity, with Charlotte Ellis, Scott Griffiths and Nicole Gulwell all sharing how we can all move forward together by sharing, connecting, and embracing the culture of First Nations people.
It is free to attend, and bookings are not required.
This exhibition runs from now until March 24, 2024.
The Great Washing Heist
Put on your detective hat and follow the clues to find out who stole the laundry at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum.
The Great Washing Heist is suitable for kids aged three and over.

Redcliffe Art Gallery highlights tour
Learn more about some of the artworks currently on display at the Redcliffe Art Gallery by joining one of the many free tours available this summer.
The tours are run Tuesday to Saturday at 11am and will help you engage with the artwork on a deeper level.
Book your spot or check in at the gallery front desk to meet your guide.

Kids workshop: Make a marvellous medal!
Have you achieved something that has made you feel proud? No matter if it is a big achievement or a small achievement, reward yourself by making your very own medal at the Pine Rivers Art Gallery.
Using cardboard, paper, glue and ribbon, everyone will be able to make their own marvellous medal to take home and wear with pride.
This workshop will be held on January 3 from 10.30-11.30am.

Beach Couture: A Haute Mess
Beach Couture, now on show at the Redcliffe Museum, is a collection of wearable pieces made of trash collected from beaches and oceans.
In this touring exhibition, artist Marina DeBris creates grotesquely amusing fashion made from plastic pollution that can be found in our oceans and on our shores.
It is free to attend.

Kids Workshop: First Nations Storytelling
For generations, Indigenous people have preserved their history, knowledge, and traditions through the power of stories.
The Caboolture Regional Art Gallery will presents two workshops where kids will sit in a yarning circle with the artists to share and yarn about Kabi Kabi and Jinibara stories and connections.
The first session will be held on January 9, 2024, from 11am-12pm, and the second session will be held on January 16, 2024, also from 11am-12pm.
It is free to attend.
Kids art class: Create your own ochre painting
Join Aunty Melinda at the Caboolture Art Gallery on January 11, 2024 for a special art class where you can learn about First Nations art while creating your very own ochre painting to take home.
Ochre is crushed from rocks and mixed with water to make paint colours. Rocks come in many different colour and sizes, making a unique colour each time.
The workshop will be held from 10.30am-12.30pm.
The cost is $5.
Caboolture Hub family play day
A robot race, making your own collage or sculpture, and playing giant family games are just a few of the activities that will be on offer at the Caboolture Hub family play day at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery on January 13, 2024.
All the fun will be held from 10am-1pm.

Mini monument workshop: Create a clay animal sculpture
Visit Redcliffe Art Gallery for some school holiday fun and create a mini monument in honour of your favourite animal.
Learn about air-drying clay and basic sculpting techniques during this workshop for beginners.
This workshop will be held on January 13 from 2-3.30pm.

Step into the colourful world of celebrated artist Martin Edge this summer at Pine Rivers Art Gallery.
This is a playful sensory exhibition that encourages everyone to experience the world through the eyes of a local Moreton Bay painter.
There are also lots of fun and interactive elements, including augmented reality and a children’s workshop space.
This exhibition runs from now until March 16, 2024
Native bees
Learn more about Australian native bees by attending a special presentation at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum on January 7.
Here you will find out more about why they are important to Australia’s environment and how many species there are.
The presentation will run from 10.30-11.30am.

Interactive dance workshop for kids
Join Jacquie Davis at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery for a morning of interactive dance on January 17 from 10.30am-12.30pm.
During the workshop, Jacquie will share her extensive knowledge of culture and dance while showing kids how to express their story through movement.

Kids workshop: Indigenous artifacts
If you would like to learn how boomerangs are made, as well as other hunting tools and shields, Join Brent Miller during these school holidays at Caboolture Regional Art Gallery for a workshop about Aboriginal artefacts.

Have you ever wondered what light sounds like? Join Ross Manning at Redcliffe Art Gallery this summer where you can learn how to turn light into sound at this wild and wacky workshop.
