BOM issues flood watch and wind warning for Moreton Bay
Published 2:12pm 12 August 2024
The Bureau of Meteorology has this afternoon issued a flood watch and marine wind warning for parts of South East Queensland, including Moreton Bay, as rain continues to fall across the state.
Isolated minor to moderate flooding is possible for coastal catchments stretching from Sarina to Tweed Heads, with the Pine and Upper Caboolture Rivers likely to be affected.
This is due to an upper trough that is currently moving south down the east coast from today, bringing heavy rain and possible thunderstorms.
It is expected to move offshore late on Wednesday, with showers easing on Thursday.
A strong wind warning is also in place stretching from Cape York down to the Gold Coast.
Currently, no roads have been impacted by flooding, and there are no recorded power outages.
Sandbag stations open
Moreton Bay residents who require sandbags can head to one of Council’s sandbag stations, all of which are open.
Sandbag stations are located in Arana Hills, Beachmere, Bongaree, Caboolture, Dayboro, Deception Bay, Elimbah, Margate, Narangba, Petrie, Toorbul and Woodford.
Council advises that sandbags can reduce the impact of flooding if they’re placed correctly in appropriate locations around the property.
Residents should bring their own shovel, as they may be required to fill their own bags.
The State Emergency Service (SES) may be able to provide assistance to residents physically unable to get their own sandbags due to illness, age or other incapacity. If assistance is required, contact the SES on 132 500.
