Council reveals extent of information breach
About 100 Moreton Bay City Council ‘customers’ have been affected by a ‘low-level privacy information incident’.
The incident appears to have occurred on or before June 11, when council’s ‘technology incident investigation process’ was activated.
A council spokeswoman says: “following a rigorous investigation with our third-party provider, we can now confirm a low-level privacy information incident occurred via our customer request portal.
“The low-level privacy information breach did not involve data being published on Council's website. It included some personal information of approximately 100 customers. No financial or sensitive information was accessible,” she says.
Council’s Privacy Team will contact those affected by close of business today.
“The cause of the incident was a system configuration error and not a cyber attack. We have worked to secure the customer portal and it is now back online. The Office of the Information Commissioner has been notified,” the spokeswoman says.
Council has not revealed what type of personal information was involved in the breach or how the information has been breached.
