Dishing up free breakfast to hungry students

Three schools on the Redcliffe Peninsula will roll out free breakfast and lunch programs to help feed students who arrive hungry after the State Government announced it is expanding its School and Community Relief program.
Clontarf Beach State High School, Kippa-Ring State School, and Redcliffe Special School were among 400 schools who received funding this year, after $6.8 million was allocated to the program.
This will help to provide Queensland kids with free school breakfast and lunch, expanded healthy snack programs or other initiatives that support the health and wellbeing of students.
This brings the total number of schools state-wide participating in the program to 499.
Education Minister Di Farmer says the program is prioritised to communities experiencing high cost of living pressures and food insecurity.
“Kids do better at school with a full stomach and its initiatives like our School and Community Food Relief Program that help deliver healthy food options to students in communities doing it tough,” she says.
