The Redcliffe Dolphins have qualified for the 2024 Hostplus Cup Grand Final after a stunning golden point victory over minor premiers Northern Pride at the weekend.

They beat Pride 17-16 at Cairns’ Barlow Park on Saturday and will now take on the Norths Devils at Redcliffe’s Kayo Stadium on Sunday (kick off 5.30pm).

The Devils beat PNG Hunters 46-30 on Sunday at Bishop Park in the other preliminary final.

It sets the scene for a Grand Final rematch between northside rivals the Dolphins and Devils who last met in the big dance in 2022. On that occasion, the Devils prevailed 16-10 and broke Dolphins fans’ hearts.

Allegiances may be split this time around, with both Hostplus Cup clubs affiliates of the Dolphins’ NRL side and fielding players who have pulled on a Dolphins jersey in the national competition.

Fan favourites Trai Fuller, Valynce Te Whare and Josh Kerr were key to Redcliffe’s win over Northern Pride – all scoring tries on Saturday. Field goal scorer Joshua James was the hero of the day, slotting the game-winner in the 82nd minute.

It’s unclear if Fuller will be fit to play in the Grand Final after leaving the field injured. There is also a serious cloud over Jarrett Boland.
