Evans targets leaders in home round

Kyle Evans, the Redcliffe-based Australian Formula Open racer, will line-up for his home round with the national series’ leaders firmly in his sights.

The 19-year-old produced a slick overtaking move at The Bend in South Australia on Sunday to take third place in round four.

Sitting in fourth place - where he finished the opening two races – Evans glided past Trent Grubel halfway through the feature event.

He then closed up on second-placed Beau Russell but was unable to find a way past and finished half a second behind.

Evans’ fastest lap of the main race was 1 minute 44.2640 seconds, but his fastest of the weekend came in race one clocking 1 minute 43.8076 seconds.

“Wow! What a weekend of racing,” Evans said on his social media page, “eyes forward to the next round at home!”

That leaves Evans third on the table with 113 points after four of the seven rounds in the 2024 Australian Formula Open series.

Ahead are Ryan McMillan with 149 and Miles Bromley on 129. In his debut Formula Open season, Evans is 13 points ahead of fourth-placed Beau Russell.

Next stop is round five at Queensland Raceway, at Willowbank near Ipswich, on August 2-4, the only round of 2024 in this state.
