Event and tourism volunteers honoured

More than 50 dedicated event and tourism volunteers were honoured last week at a special National Volunteers Week event held at Tempest Seafood Restaurant.
Hosted by Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) along with partner City of Moreton Bay, the evening was filled with celebration.
Volunteers received badges acknowledging their years of service, including 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of dedicated volunteer work.
The event welcomed several key players in the volunteering and local council space.
The volunteers were acknowledged by Volunteering QLD CEO Mara Basanovic, QLD Information Centre Association Secretary Matthew Winn and the City of Moreton Bay Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway, alongside Councillors Brooke Savige, Yvonne Barlow, Cath Tonks, Mark Booth and Karl Winchester.
MBRIT CEO Natassia Wheeler says the acknowledgement of volunteers across Moreton Bay is truly significant.
“Our tourism and event volunteers are the heart and soul of our region's visitor experience,” she says.
“They've already committed over 21,000 hours of service in 2024 alone, welcoming visitors at events and visitor centres, leading free walking tours and setting up and packing down events.
“Their passion and dedication truly embody the spirit of this year's National Volunteers Week theme, 'Something for everyone.’”
A sneak peek at Scarborough Harbour Tours
Prior to the commencement of the presentations, guests were treated to a special preview of a new, free Scarborough Harbour walk and talk tour program.
Launching in the next few weeks, these tours promise to be a fantastic addition to the region's visitor offerings.
Looking to get involved? The visitor centres at Woodford, Samford and Caboolture have space for new volunteers to join their teams.
