Green light for new Maccas and jobs

Hundreds of jobs are set to be created following approval of plans for a new McDonald’s restaurant on one of Moreton Bay’s busiest roads.

Moreton Bay City Council has given the green light for a proposed McDonald’s at 858-868 Gympie Road, Lawnton.

The restaurant, on a 3642sqm site, will be on the corner of Gympie Rd and Station St, diagonally opposite Encircle Community Services.

McDonald’s Australia said, in a statement, the planned restaurant will “create 100 jobs during construction as well as a further 120 jobs once operational”.

It is expected to “inject over $7 million into the local economy”.

“We look forward to joining the Lawnton community,” McDonald’s Australia said.

“The restaurant will play an active role in the community through providing jobs, training and development opportunities for local employees, as well as supporting local causes and groups that are important to our customers and people.

“It will be fitted with modern décor and feature a dual lane drive thru, dedicated partner delivery room, McCafé and PlayPlace for customers to enjoy.

“McDonald’s Lawnton will be fully equipped with solar panels, a heat recovery water system and LED lighting, helping to reduce emissions and energy use in the restaurant.”

The development application says it will have a 450sqm restaurant, with a 118sqm indoor seating area and 23 parking spaces.
