Moreton Bay’s Garage Sale Trail returns

Australia’s favourite festival of preloved stuff, the Garage Sale Trail, returns to the City of Moreton Bay for two big weekends.

Set your reminders for November 11, 12, 18 and 19, and snag a bargain in the ultimate guilt-free shopping spree.

Garage Sale Trail first blossomed in 2012 at Bondi Beach in Sydney, when two blokes – Andrew and Dazz – realised there was a need to shine a spotlight on sustainability to preserve the environment.

Now recognised nation-wide eight years later, more than 300,000 Australians get involved in Garage Sale Trail each year, helping to save 3 million kilograms of stuff going into landfill.

Mayor Peter Flannery encourages Moreton Bay locals to support sustainable shopping and do their bit for the environment.

“We are encouraging households, streets, schools and community groups across Moreton Bay to get involved and host a garage sale. It’s a good chance to get out there and meet your neighbours whilst you hunt for a bargain," Mayor Flannery says.

“Selling stuff you no longer need reduces the amount of waste headed to landfill, so this is a good opportunity to do your bit for the environment.

“As the cost-of-living increases, the Garage Sale Trail is a great way to find affordable goods or make some extra cash.

“Currently, we have 36 sales registered, which is projected to save many preloved second-hand household items from becoming waste. Fast fashion is one of the biggest contributors to landfill, so it’s great that past garage sales indicated that 17 per cent of the trail items are clothes and fashion accessories.”
