Moreton Bay trampolinists have brought home a handsome haul of medals and titles from the Australian Gymnastics Championships.
Three months’ preparation for this month's national titles led to 50 medals and 15 titles for the Queensland squad.
Under head coach Lyn Gilroy, from Mango Hill, Queensland was also top state at National Level Stream and second in the International Stream.
“As Queensland trampoline head coach, I and our state coaching team are proud of all athletes that completed the event,” she said.
Gilroy coaches a number of Moreton Bay trampolinists at Redlands City Gym Sports in Chandler and at Brisbane City Gymnastics Club in Brendale.
They include Beau Edwards from Clontarf, Caboolture's Tyga Stimson and Amelie Townsend of Redcliffe - part of the 'Redlands Red Frog Squad'.
Beau Edwards – 1st Individual Trampoline; Individual Double Mini Trampoline (DMT) withdrew due to injury; 2nd DMT Teams; 13th Synchronised Trampoline.
Tyga Stimson – 5th Individual Trampoline; 2nd Individual DMT; 6th Individual Tumbling; 2nd DMT Teams; 3rd Tumbling Teams; 5th Synchronised Trampoline (senior level)
Amelia Townsend – 7th Individual Trampoline; 1st Individual DMT; 8th Synchronised Trampoline
Grace Chan (Varsity Lakes) – 4th Individual Trampoline; 12th Individual DMT; 7th Synchronised Trampoline
Trey Morales (Redlands) – 1st Individual Trampoline; 6th Individual DMT; 1st Synchronised Trampoline
Queensland's success came without internationals Harrison Lee, from Newport and Redcliffe's Bryce Edwards, as well as Kasen Hetherington, of North Lakes, due to injury.
However, Lee and Stimson, from Redlands City Gym Sports, will fly to Portugal in July, with the Australian team, for two international competitions.
Moreton Bay gymnasts will be on the Gold Coast in August for the Queensland Trampoline Levels competition before September’s National Club Championships.
All training, competition and travel expenses are met by the trampolinists and their families who carpool for travel to the Sleeman Sports Centre.
