New hospital to open next week
The new Kallangur Satellite Hospital, in Stoker Way, will accept its first patients from Monday.
It is one of seven such hospitals, in a $377 million program, being built in South-East Queensland and one of three in the City of Moreton Bay.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier and State Member for Murrumba Steven Miles and Health Minister Shannon Fentiman officially opened the hospital last Friday.
Kallangur is the first to have kidney dialysis and a rehabilitation gym. Caboolture Satellite Hospital is already open. Bribie will follow next year.
The Kallangur facility has a Minor Illness and Injury Clinic for people who don’t need to go to an emergency department and who may not be able to get to a general practitioner.
It will treat simple fractures, sprains and strains, head injuries (without loss of consciousness) and a range of other urgent conditions from 8am to 10pm daily and includes on-site medical imaging.
There is also an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health hub and additional outpatient services including oral health.
The 12-chair kidney dialysis unit has the capacity to treat about 48 patients each week.
“Our high growth communities need healthcare services that keep pace with their needs,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“Through the Satellite Hospitals Program, we are demonstrating again that we are listening and delivering the services that matter to Queenslanders.”
Deputy Premier and Member for Murrumba Steven Miles said: “Moreton Bay is one of the South East’s fastest growing communities, and they need free healthcare services that keep pace with their needs.”
Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman added: “The in-house renal dialysis and oral health services, as well as the new Minor Injury and Illness Clinic are a game changer for the community – reducing travel time and providing more options.”
State Members Nikki Boyd (Pine Rivers), Shane King (Kurwongbah) and Chris Whiting (Bancroft) were also at the opening and welcomed the new hospital.
