Moreton Bay Art Prize 2024

PINE RIVERS ART GALLERY I JUNE 22-AUGUST 3 I FREE ENTRY

The Moreton Bay Art Prize is an annual exhibition and prize that supports and celebrates our diverse local artists.

Winners of the prize will share a prize pool totalling $10,000 with non-acquisitive prizes of:

• $5000 for first place
• $3000 for second place
• $1500 for third place
• $500 for a People’s Choice Award.

An exhibition showcasing the finalists will be held at Pine Rivers Art Gallery from Saturday, June 22 to Saturday, August 3.

Chantal Fraser: The Ascended

CABOOLTURE REGIONAL ART GALLERY I JUNE 12-AUGUST 31 I FREE ENTRY

Since the early 2000s, Sāmoan-Australian artist Chantal Fraser’s feminist anti-colonial art practice has challenged Euro–American art histories that have been spread across the globe.

Exploring ritual, adornment and gestures of exchange, her works make use of a vast array of artistic, musical and spiritual sources, from global pop culture to folk and customary practices.

Chantal Fraser: The Ascended was developed by Griffith University Art Museum and supported by Arts Queensland, Creative Australia, and NorthSite Contemporary Arts.

REDCLIFFE ART GALLERY I UNTIL JULY 13 I FREE ENTRY

Wish you were here began as a response to the stop-start movement of COVID-19 by artist Kelly O’Dempsey.

The exhibition transforms the monotony of pandemic life into a mesmerising carnival of ghostly shapes, inspired by objects from around the artist’s home.

Using video, light installation and augmented reality, O’Dempsey invites you into an immersive space that celebrates the joy of the everyday.

Wildflowering by Design

BRIBIE ISLAND SEASIDE MUSEUM I JUNE 15-SEPTEMBER 8 I FREE ENTRY

Wildflowering by Design explores contemporary responses to our botanical and wildflower heritage.

It presents works by Queensland female artists who work across the art and design spectrum. Taking a fresh look at the historical legacy and engaging with local landscapes, the artists have created new, re-imagined works and visions.

By bringing nature into people’s homes and lives, we help create a ‘botanical culture’. This builds broader awareness of our native ‘wildflower’ heritage and appreciation for Country.

Exhibition curated by Dr Sue Davis and Dr Lisa Chandler.

Births, deaths and marriages

REDCLIFFE MUSEUM I UNTIL AUGUST 4 I FREE ENTRY

Births, deaths, and marriages are major life events. How we view and mark them has been shaped by customs, changing fashion, social influences, and world events.

From how World War I changed mourning practices to the meaning behind silver baby gifts, this exhibition sheds light on the rituals, traditions and beliefs behind the experiences we all share.

It features a fascinating array of objects from our museum collection along with loans from the community.

Exhibition developed by City of Moreton Bay.

MORETON BAY REGION LIBRARIES I ONGOING I FREE ENTRY

Unleash you imagination with new Magic Tables at Moreton Bay's libraries. Be one of the first in Queensland to experience the wonder!

Games, puzzles, and creative experiences are projected in an interactive space for all ages and abilities to explore and enjoy.

Many of the games were specifically designed to benefit individuals with cognitive challenges, such as dementia and learning difficulties. Friendly library staff can show you the intuitive features and levels of fun for everyone!

Magic Tables are at Caboolture, North Lakes, Redcliffe and Strathpine libraries.
