Plans for new 'affordable housing'
Plans have been lodged by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS) for 75 units of new “affordable housing” in Deception Bay.
The one and two bedroom units for those aged 55 woiuld be in two buildings, at 643-651 Deception Bay Rd (beside the Liberty service station.
ATSICHS Brisbane said the plan “is to provide much-needed and suitable housing solutions that respect and reflect the values of our First Nations People in the community.
“This project plays a key role in that mission.
“These units will adhere to the Government Social Housing Design Guidelines, ensuring quality and responsiveness to both resident and community needs.”
ATSICHS submitted the development application to Moreton Bay City Council just before Christmas and is publically available on Council’s DA Tracker website.
If it is approved, ATSICHS says construction, on the 8000sqm vacant block, could start later this year and finish in 2026.
Plans show the first building will have 27 units – 21 with one bedroom and six with two bedrooms – on three levels above under croft car parking.
Building two will have four levels with 48 apartments – 32 with one bedroom, 16 with two bedrooms – also above parking.
There will be total ground level parking for 53 cars with 10 outdoor spaces, as well as communal and recreational areas for residents.
This initiative is backed by Queensland Government funding under QuickStarts Qld.
ATSICHS is a not-for-profit community-owned health care and human services organisation.
The DA says it delivers “unique health and wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in South-East Queensland”.
