Police warning for party planners
Words by Nick Crockford

Police have urged residents across the City of Moreton Bay to register their parties and be aware of out-of-control event legislation.

The appeal comes after Burpengary police had to call in officers from neighbouring divisions to help at a large party on acreage in Raynbird Rd, Narangba.

Police were alerted when more than 500 people arrived at the party as a result of social media messaging.

The host of the party had only invited 200 guests and it was soon overrun by people they did not know.

A hired security guard was soon overwhelmed by the party goers who, when police arrived were acting in a “disorderly, offensive, threatening and violent manner”.

There were no arrests and police remained to ensure there was no damage to public property and people were safe as the crowd dispersed.

However, event took seven officers away from other duties and demonstrated again how social media can impact such events.

Police have issued a reminder to register parties and be aware of the out-of control event legislation. Follow the link to the QPS Party Safe page for more information.

As the host, you may be liable if your party gets out of control and is declared an out-of-control event.
