Runners raise money for Breakfast Club Redcliffe

This year’s Jetty 2 Jetty Half Marathon & Fun Run will raise money for The Breakfast Club Redcliffe as cost-of-living pressures and the housing crisis cause a surge in demand.

Entrants in this year’s Jetty 2 Jetty, which includes the Kindred Half Marathon, Moreton Daily wheelchair 10km, Moreton Daily 10km, Planet Fitness 5km and Ausbuild 3km races, can choose to make a donation when they register. Registrations are now open. Visit j2j.com.au

Jetty 2 Jetty is Queensland’s longest-running fun run and will be held on Sunday, July 21 at Clontarf’s Pelican Park.

It is delivered by Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) in partnership with Moreton Bay Road Runners and support from principal sponsor Moreton Bay City Council.

MBRIT CEO Natassia Wheeler is thrilled to announce The Breakfast Club Redcliffe as the official charity partner of the 2024 Jetty 2 Jetty Half Marathon & Fun Run.

“The Jetty 2 Jetty event has a long-standing tradition of supporting local community groups and charities, and we are proud to continue this tradition by partnering with The Breakfast Club Redcliffe Inc,” she says.

“Their dedication to providing breakfast and additional support to those in need within our community aligns perfectly with our values of community engagement and support. Together, we look forward to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need within our community.”

The Breakfast Club Redcliffe Chairperson Michelle Gilchrist is excited about partnering with the event for the first time.

“It’s going to increase the profile and get us out there. It’s just good to be involved in these community events,” she says.

Representatives from The Breakfast Club will have a stall at the event to raise awareness of homelessness.

“We will also be there when people pick up their (race) packs, just letting people know what we do,” Michelle explains.

“We’re extremely grateful to the runners. It’s such a big event and high profile.

“Right now, we are struggling to keep our food pantry full and keep supporting people because the need is so great.”

The Breakfast Club Redcliffe has been providing free meals, food assistance and support to the homeless and those in need since 2003.

It is run mostly by a team of volunteers, using money raised through donations and fundraising to buy food and supplies to help people in need and to cover running costs such as fuel and insurance.

The Breakfast Club Redcliffe’s number one priority is collecting and distributing food to those in need, but it also welcomes donations of blankets, sleeping bags, warm socks and gloves as winter sets in.

Anyone wanting to make donations can do so at the Clontarf Beach Community Hall at 34 Cornelius St on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-5pm.
