The panel of experts, which will determine the shortlist of entrants in the Suttons Beach Pavilion architectural design competition, has been selected.
The ‘jury’ will be made up of five experts with years of expertise in the architectural and design industries.
They will assess and shortlist architects who will progress to the concept design development stage.
The panel is: Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter President Amy Degenhart, Jackson Clements Burrows Director Graham Burrows, Queensland Government Architect Leah Lang, LAT Studios Director Nathalie Ward, and Moreton Bay City Council Client Project Director Paul Cunningham.
Mayor Peter Flannery says he met with the panel to explain the importance of the precinct to locals and visitors and brief them on council’s long-term vision.
"I’m truly excited to see the progress around the new mixed-use facility at Suttons Beach,” he says.
“We’ve invited architects from across the country and wider architectural community to put their best ideas forward and help us revitalise Suttons Beach.
“The jury are a group of highly competent and established professionals from the architecture industry and bring years of experience and knowledge to the project.
“The group will decide the shortlist in February and we expect to see a competition winner by mid-2024.”
Cr Karl Winchester (Div 6) says it is a unique opportunity to revitalise the area.
“We want to return this iconic destination to community use and allow a new generation to enjoy it anew,” he says.
“Council is looking forward to engaging the successful candidates to deliver more detailed building designs for this beloved foreshore location.”
Members of the jury were appointed by competition lead CityLab for their expertise and years of service in the space.
Jury member and Queensland Government Architect Leah Lang says the project is a way to bring new life to the much-loved seaside area.
"We hope that an external lens over this treasured Redcliffe space will bring a fresh perspective to the project,” she says.
“We want to help the Peninsula community to once again love this space, and it is our mission to bring the right people and the right ideas together to do just that.”
