Welcome news for motorists

New traffic lights are expected to be switched on at the busy intersection of Boardman and Klingner roads, Kippa-Ring, this week.

The lights have been installed as part of an upgrade which removed a troublesome roundabout. They are due to be activated on Friday, December 1, weather permitting.

A council spokeswoman confirmed the timing, saying there is still work to be done at the site.

“There will be landscaping, road sign installation and minor handrail works to be finalised before the project is fully complete,” she says.

“Council thanks residents for their patience during this period of construction especially those who live close to the intersection for their understanding during the recent nightworks.”

The intersection upgrade aims to improve safety, particularly for cyclists and pedestrians, and reduce congestion by:

  • upgrading the roundabout to a traffic signal-controlled intersection
  • installing additional traffic lanes to increase the capacity
  • installing cycle lanes, improved footpaths, and pedestrian crossings to improve safety
  • providing additional street lighting and landscaping

The upgrade is a joint initiative of the Federal Government (Local Roads Community Infrastructure Program) with $4 million in funding, and a City of Moreton Bay allocation for the project of about $6 million.
